Welcome to House Spouse

House Spouse is operated by Crusoe Says LLC ("we," "us," or "our"), based in Pittsboro, North Carolina. These Terms of Service govern your use of the House Spouse mobile application and related services.

By creating an account or using our app, you agree to be bound by these terms. Please read them carefully before using our services. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the app.

1. Acceptance of Terms

  • By creating an account or using House Spouse, you agree to these Terms of Service. These terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and Crusoe Says LLC ("we," "us," or "our"), the company that operates House Spouse
  • You must be at least 18 years old to use House Spouse, or have the consent of a parent or legal guardian. Users under 13 are not permitted to use the app in accordance with COPPA requirements
  • We may update these terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the effective date and, if appropriate, sending a notification within the app
  • Your continued use of House Spouse after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated terms. If you do not agree to the changes, you should stop using the app

2. Description of Service

  • House Spouse is a home management application designed to help homeowners organize, track, and stay on top of household maintenance and related tasks
  • Features include: task management with scheduling, reminders, priority levels, and seasonal checklists; a calendar view for planning maintenance; notes and voice notes with categories and photo/document attachments; receipt scanning and valuables tracking with purchase details; warranty management with expiration tracking; an AI-powered chat assistant for home maintenance questions; a detailed home profile for personalized recommendations; educational content including step-by-step maintenance guides, a home glossary, and tips; data export in PDF and CSV formats; push notification reminders; and contractor contact management
  • House Spouse is an organizational and informational tool only. It does not provide professional advice of any kind — including but not limited to home inspection, contractor, legal, financial, real estate, or medical advice
  • We do not perform actual home maintenance or repairs. Professional consultation is recommended for electrical, plumbing, HVAC, structural, or any work requiring licensed expertise

3. Account and Eligibility

  • You must provide accurate and complete information when creating your account. You are responsible for keeping your account information up to date
  • You may create an account using email and password, Google Sign-In, or Apple Sign-In. Only one account per person is permitted; sharing accounts is prohibited
  • You are solely responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account
  • You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. Users under 18 must have parental or guardian consent. You must be at least 18 years old to purchase a subscription
  • We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, engage in prohibited conduct, or remain inactive for an extended period. You may delete your account at any time through Profile Settings

4. User Content Ownership and License Grant

  • You retain full ownership of all content you create within House Spouse, including notes, photos, documents, tasks, checklists, voice recordings, receipts, warranty records, and home profile information
  • By using House Spouse, you grant Crusoe Says LLC a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store, process, and display your content solely for the purpose of providing and improving app functionality. This license ends when you delete your content or your account
  • You are solely responsible for the content you upload, create, or share through the app. You represent that you have the right to use and share any content you provide
  • We may remove or disable access to content that violates these terms, applicable law, or the rights of others
  • You can export your data at any time through Settings and can request deletion of your account and all associated data through Profile Settings

5. AI-Powered Features

  • House Spouse includes AI-powered features: an AI chat assistant for home maintenance questions (powered by third-party AI providers via OpenRouter, using models from Meta Llama and Google Gemini). For AI chat voice input, transcription happens on-device using your phone's built-in speech recognition and chat audio is never sent to external servers. Voice notes saved in Spouse Notes are stored as audio files in our secure cloud storage — see the File Storage section
  • When you use AI features, the following leaves your device and is processed on external servers operated by third-party AI providers: (a) your chat messages and any attached images or documents; (b) your home profile — including home type, region, age, HVAC, water, sewer, water heater, roof, siding, foundation, garage, fireplace, and equipment flags such as pool, basement, sump pump, and water softener; (c) recent and upcoming tasks (names, due dates, status); (d) past task completion history (task name, tag, and completion date) when the assistant looks up "when did I last…?" type questions; (e) note titles and content; (f) receipt details (vendor, amount, category); and (g) AI memories you have allowed the assistant to retain
  • All AI-generated responses are for general informational purposes only. AI output is NOT professional advice — it is not a substitute for licensed home inspection, contractor, legal, financial, real estate, or medical advice
  • AI may produce inaccurate, incomplete, or outdated information. You are solely responsible for verifying any AI-generated advice before taking action, especially for maintenance tasks involving safety, structural, electrical, plumbing, or HVAC systems
  • By using the AI assistant, you acknowledge and agree that your data as described above will be sent to third-party AI providers for processing. This data sharing is required for the AI assistant to function, and your use of the AI assistant constitutes your agreement. If you do not wish to share data with AI providers, you can simply choose not to use the AI assistant — the rest of the app works fully without it. Please refer to our Privacy Policy for full details on how your data is processed by AI services
  • AI features are subject to usage rate limits to manage costs and prevent abuse. AI service availability depends on third-party providers and may be interrupted without notice

6. File Storage, Uploads, and Device Permissions

  • House Spouse may request access to device features including your camera (for scanning receipts, capturing documents, and taking photos), microphone (for voice notes and voice input), photo library (for attaching existing photos), speech recognition (for converting voice to text), location (for detecting your geographic region during onboarding), and push notifications (for task reminders and alerts)
  • All device permissions are optional, requested only when you use the relevant feature, and can be revoked at any time in your device Settings
  • Files and media you upload — including photos, documents, scanned receipts, and voice recordings — are stored in secure cloud storage provided by Supabase. Data is encrypted in transit using HTTPS and encrypted at rest
  • You are solely responsible for the content of any files you upload. Do not upload content that is illegal, harmful, or that you do not have the right to share

7. Subscription Terms and Billing

  • House Spouse offers a premium subscription with a 7-day free trial. When the free trial ends, your subscription automatically converts to a paid subscription unless you cancel before the trial expires
  • Payment will be charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase
  • Subscription automatically renews unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period
  • Your account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period
  • You can manage and cancel your subscription by going to your Account Settings on the App Store after purchase
  • Any unused portion of a free trial period, if offered, will be forfeited when you purchase a subscription
  • Subscription pricing, billing period, and renewal terms are displayed at the time of purchase in the App Store. All prices are in the currency of your App Store region and may vary by location
  • All subscriptions are managed through Apple's App Store and processed via Apple's In-App Purchase system. We never receive, process, or store your payment card details, billing address, or Apple ID password
  • Refunds are handled in accordance with Apple's refund policy. To request a refund, visit reportaproblem.apple.com
  • Your use of this app is also subject to Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (EULA), available at https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/

8. Third-Party Services

  • House Spouse relies on the following third-party services to operate: Supabase (database, authentication, file storage, and server-side functions), OpenRouter (AI chat processing, routing to models from Meta Llama and Google Gemini), PostHog (product analytics and session recording), Superwall (subscription paywall management), Loops.so (transactional email delivery), Apple services (Push Notifications, StoreKit/In-App Purchases, Sign-In with Apple), and Google (OAuth sign-in)
  • Each third-party service operates under its own terms of service and privacy policy. We encourage you to review their respective policies
  • We are not responsible for the availability, performance, or changes to third-party services. Interruptions or changes to these services may affect House Spouse functionality
  • For details on what data is shared with each service, please refer to our Privacy Policy

9. Prohibited Uses

  • You may not use House Spouse for any illegal, fraudulent, or unauthorized purpose
  • You may not harass, abuse, threaten, or submit harmful, offensive, or objectionable content through the app
  • You may not attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, or otherwise derive the source code of the app
  • You may not circumvent, disable, or interfere with security features or access restrictions
  • You may not use automated systems, bots, or scripts to access or scrape the app or its data
  • You may not impersonate another person or misrepresent your identity or affiliation
  • You may not upload or transmit viruses, malware, or other malicious code
  • Violation of these restrictions may result in immediate account suspension or termination

10. Limitation of Liability

  • House Spouse and all related services are provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement
  • House Spouse provides guidance and informational tools but is not responsible for home maintenance outcomes. You assume full responsibility for your own maintenance decisions and actions
  • AI-generated advice, voice transcription, and document scanning may contain errors or inaccuracies. You should not rely solely on these features for critical decisions
  • We are not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of or inability to use the app, including but not limited to property damage, personal injury, data loss, or financial losses
  • Service availability depends on third-party providers and internet connectivity. We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free service
  • To the maximum extent permitted by law, Crusoe Says LLC's total liability for any claims arising from your use of House Spouse shall not exceed the amount you paid to us in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim

11. Changes to Terms

  • We may modify these Terms of Service from time to time to reflect changes in our services, legal requirements, or business practices
  • We will notify you of material changes by updating the "Effective Date" at the top of these terms and, if appropriate, sending you a notification within the app
  • Your continued use of House Spouse after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated terms
  • We encourage you to review these terms periodically. If you do not agree with any changes, you should discontinue use of the app and delete your account

12. Governing Law

  • These Terms of Service are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of North Carolina, United States, without regard to conflict of law principles
  • Any disputes arising from or related to these terms or your use of House Spouse shall be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Chatham County, North Carolina
  • If any provision of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect

Important Safety Notice

House Spouse provides guidance and reminders for home maintenance tasks. However, we strongly recommend consulting with qualified professionals for electrical, plumbing, HVAC, or structural work. Your safety is paramount, and some maintenance tasks require professional expertise.

Our AI assistant provides general information only and should not be relied upon for critical decisions. Always verify AI-generated advice with professional sources before taking action.
